The Fort Worth City Attorney’s Office is recruiting for a licensed attorney who is focused on providing consistent, excellent legal services and quality customer service.  The selected candidate should possess 2 to 10 years of employment law experience and will be assigned primarily to handle labor and employment matters, including but not limited to: providing advice and guidance regarding disciplinary matters and the interpretation and application of state civil service statutes, City personnel rules, and labor agreements; responding to state and federal charges of discrimination; representing the City in state and federal lawsuits involving claims of employment discrimination, contract grievances, and disciplinary appeals; and reviewing and recommending changes to personnel policies.  The selected candidate may also be assigned to perform other legal tasks, including advising City labor negotiators, responding to subpoenas and public information requests, reviewing and commenting on pending legislation, advising City boards and commissions, and providing other legal research and legal advice to the City staff on a variety of matters as assigned.
Must possess the ability to learn:
  • Applicable local, state and federal laws.
  • City policies and procedures.
  • Legal principles, practices and procedures of common, civil, criminal, constitutional and administrative law.
  • Methods and techniques of legal research.
Must possess skills in:
  • Legal research, analysis and writing.
  • Negotiation.
  • Computers and applicable software.
  • Organization and time management.
  • Participating in trials.
  • Public speaking.
