Job Summary: The Academic Technologist will be responsible for leading and establishing the learning and content management system in the new allopathic medical school. The position will focus on innovative change and development of new digital content, interactive lecture and non-lecture based teaching sessions, and ongoing integration of technologies that improve teaching and learning in the medical education program.
 
Duties and Essential Job Functions:
Supports projects and builds collaborative working relationships with faculty, students, staff, IT personnel, and vendors.
 
Maintains and trains staff in the using the content management system.
 
Assists faculty with designing and identifying the best teaching methods that support self-directed learning.
 
Assists faculty in the development of online learning components, technology, enhanced live lectures, team learning and other methods as needed.
 
Creates self-help training material and conducts workshops.
 
Manages the deployment of new technologies, integrates new technologies with other systems and trouble shoots problems.
 
Establishes structure of CMS/LMS system and trains faculty, staff, and students on its use.
 
Works cooperatively with information technology staff and vendors to implement a successful teaching and learning environment.
 
Evaluates new technologies, initiatives and trends to discover new and better ways to enhance instruction and make recommendations.
 
Maintains online web-based resources such as tutorials, reference material, design standards, content resources, templates, and tools for curriculum development.
 
Creates training materials for faculty, staff, and students for use within a self-directed learning environment.
 
Provides direction for developing video-based online teaching and learning technologies.
 
Applies adult learning theory while responding to requests for technology assistance.
 
Conducts research studies evaluating the use of technologies and their impact on student learning outcomes.
 
Designs and implements workflows to support technology systems.
 
Integrates new technologies into existing systems using feeds, APIs/LTIs.
 
Manages technology systems for the use of instruction.
 
Troubleshoots issues with School of Medicine personnel and vendors.
 
Conducts training sessions teaching faculty and staff how to use new technologies.
 
Performs other related duties as assigned.
