As a Systems Engineer in the Enterprise Security group, primary activities and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assess and remediate application vulnerabilities, particularly the OWASP Top 10
  • Perform security coding for authentication, authorization, and input validation
  • Educate fellow software developers on best practices in application security
  • Express the potential impact of software security vulnerabilities without spreading FUD
  • Produce and maintain documentation for practices and procedures
  • Perform testing to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data and systems
  • Collaborate with feature teams for alignment with enterprise architecture
  • Evaluate supplier tools and appliances to support BNSF security policies and standards
  • Represent the Enterprise Security team as part of application development projects and/or management process in both Technology Services and business groups as required
  • Provide expert analysis, troubleshooting and forensic investigation of security anomalies which may require periodic, on-call, after hours support, including weekends and holidays
Previous experience in information security is preferred including experience with:
  • Significant experience in at least one of: Java, C, C++, Python, C#, or .NET
  • Secure Software Development Lifecycle
  • Securing web applications
  • Vulnerability testing
  • Source code auditing
  • Project Management
  • TCP/IP Networking
  • HTTP Reverse Proxies
  • Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
  • Information security risk / vulnerability assessments
  • In-flight data encryption
Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience is required.
A minimum of six years experience in an IT organization with at least three years in a systems security function is
CISSP, CSSLP certifications preferred.
